Teen Therapy

“Adolescents are not monsters. They are just people trying to learn how to make it among the adults in the world, who are probably not so sure themselves.”

— Virginia Satir

The teen stage of life can be overwhelming for teens and their families. During this phase of life it is our job as adults to help teens develop their skills for independence and self-empowerment. While I teach skills such as emotional regulation and communication, I also like to collaborate with parents on how you can support and guide your teens too. We work as a team for your teen’s well-being.

It’s important that my teen clients know that what they share is confidential (unless their or someone else’s safety is at risk), and I also find incorporating the parents/guardians into treatment is clinically effective. This can look like a parent-only session at intake, brief check-in calls, or facilitated family sessions where teens can practice their communication skills. No two teens are alike, so I tailor each treatment plan specifically with the teen’s well-being and family system in mind.

I treat teens who want support with

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Grief (Particularly sudden unexpected loss)

  • Life changes (divorce, changing schools, graduating, etc.)

  • Family, friend, and other relationship issues (loneliness, dating, difficulty connecting, etc.)

  • Processing parts of their identity: racial, cultural, gender, sexual orientation, socio economic status, ability status

  • Self-esteem

  • Trauma

  • Self care (sleep hygiene, screen time, etc.)
